This document lists various search engines and platforms for forums and discussion boards, including 4CAT, 4chan Search, Boardreader, Built With Flarum, Communalytic, Facebook Groups, Google Groups, LinkedIn Groups, LinkBase, Ning, Omgili, Xing Groups, and Yahoo Groups (which is no longer accessible).
- 4chan Search: A search engine crawling and indexing threads and posts on 4chan, one of the internet’s most visited imageboard websites.
- Boardr eader: A search engine for forums and discussiltaneously and effectively tracks conversations in niche communities.
- Built With Flarum: A database of online forums that use Flarum, an open-source, modern forum software platform. It helps in finding communities built with Flarum.
- Communalytic: Communalytic is a computational social science research tool for studying online communities and discourse. It can collect, analyze, and visualize publicly available data from Twitter, Reddit, Telegram, and Facebook/Instagram (via CrowdTangle), or from your own CSV or JSON files.
- Facebook Groups: A feature on Facebook where users can create and join groups around shared interests. They are places where people can communicate about shared interests with certain people.
- Google Groups: A service from Google that provides discussion groups for people sharing common interests. The Group’s service also provides a gateway to Usenet newsgroups via a shared user interface.
- Linkedin Groups: A feature of LinkedIn where users can create or join groups related to a wide range of professional topics. LinkedIn groups are a great way for professionals to share content, find answers, post and view jobs, make business contacts, and establish themselves as industry experts.
- LinkBase: A free link indexing and exploration service that allows users to search for and investigate the relationships between different websites, forums, and blogs.
- Ning: An online platform for people and organizations to create custom social networks. Ning offers the possibility to create a community website with a customized appearance and feel; feature sets including photos, videos, forums, and blogs; and support for “Like”, plus integration with Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Yahoo!
- Omgili: A search engine that focuses on “many to many” user-generated content platforms, such as forums, discussion groups, answer boards, social networks, and others.
- Xing Groups: A social networking site that consists of various forums and discussion groups which allow users to network in a professional context, share knowledge, and find new contacts.
- Yahoo Groups: (Note: Yahoo Groups officially shut down on December 15, 2020, and the website is no longer accessible. It was a group email communication service, which made it possible to connect with others who share the same hobbies and interests. Please replace or remove this link.)
